Course of Fire

The live-fire qualification must be completed in order to finish your course. You must qualify with all of the firearms you want to put on your permit. Some jurisdictions have no limits on how many guns you can list on your permit. Some jurisdictions only allow up-to a specific number of handguns. Merced County is limited to 5 guns on your CCW Permit.

Any handgun that you want to carry, must be registered with the California DOJ to the CCW applicant, or their spouse. You may not use a firearm that was purchased outside of California and never registered with the California DOJ, or that currently belongs to another person.

The minimum course of fire is:
5 rounds fired at 3 yards.
10 rounds fired at 5 yards.
5 rounds fired at 8 yards.

You will shoot a minimum of 20 rounds per firearm, but if you are listing more than 3 firearms, your course of fire will be amended accordingly. You are required to shoot at least 20 rounds out of each of your firearms. Doing the minimum course of fire, your target should have 20 holes in it when it is scored.

The target is a standard human silhouette. The shooter must group their shots within center-mass of the target. The course-of-fire will be explained in-depth when the student comes in to qualify at Stage Stop Gun Shop in Atwater, California.
